Tū Atu Tū Mai – The Actor Director Dance
Kia kawea tātou e te rēhia | Let us be taken by the spirit of joy, of entertainment
Nau mai, whakarauika mai!
The director brings their vision, the actor brings their offers and somewhere in that space between them the dance begins. This reo rua wānanga is a safe and supportive environment for Māori actors and directors with varying levels of confidence in te reo Māori. Preference will be given to people who have some experience of working in the industry. We invite applications from directors and actors to come together to explore, make offers and figure out what works, without the usual pressures of time, budget and crew standing by.
Under the guidance of longtime collaborators Director Awanui Simich Pene and Actor/Director Miriama McDowell, this wānanga will ask you to be hands-on, curious, and collaborative.
This is the second wānanga in our pilot series Toitū Te Mana Whakaari for Māori actors or performers who are on their speaking journey i te reo Māori.
It’s happening on Saturday 1st August, 9.30am-5pm at The Fale, Samoa House, 283 Karangahape Rd, Auckland.
